[1] WWDC 2002 Sessions Now Streaming
WWDC 2002 Sessions are now being streamed via QuickTime on ADC TV. ADC TV features 120 sessions of technical content from Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, held May 6-10, 2002. Sessions may be viewed with either an English or Japanese audio track. ADC Select members may purchase access to all ADC TV sessions (accompanied by a DVD-ROM set) or they may choose to purchase access to selected sessions. The individual session sets are:
-Carbon & Cocoa Frameworks
- Graphics, Imaging, & Printing
- I/O & Audio Technologies
-Java
-Networking & Connectivity
- QuickTime
-Tools
-Unix
-WebObjects
All WWDC 2002 attendees as well as Premier members have free access to ADC TV and will receive a DVD-ROM set when it becomes available in August.

ADC'S Internet Developer site has published a new article on Enterprise Java and Mac OS X. With the open source servers JBoss and Jetty, developers can test and deploy J2EE applications on Mac OS X. This article walks you through setting up the servers and
includes a substantial set of example code.

[5] System Administration Tool News: Who's There Firewall Advisor 1.2

Who's There? Firewall Advisor 1.2 from Open Door Networks helps
administrators analyze, investigate, and respond to attempts to
access their Macintosh computers. This update adds support for Mac
OS X Server and many popular firewalls.

[6] Web Development Tool News: eOrdering Complete, HTML-Optimizer
Lite, Web Site Maestro

eOrdering Complete from LAJ Design is a cross-platform application that creates online web-based stores that use shopping cart technology. eOrdering Complete lets you enter your products, their cost, and then creates all the web pages. It can also create the server-side code to process emails. eOrdering Complete runs on Mac OS X as well as other operating systems.

HTML-Optimzier Lite by Tonbrand Software checks web pages for dangling tags, missing attributes and broken links, and makes pages load faster by optimizing both HTML and script code.

Web Site Maestro by Tonbrand Software checks web pages for dangling tags, missing attributes and broken links, and makes pages load faster by optimizing both HTML and script code. The program features "Smart Handling" which means that only the pages that you have changed are optimized. Web Site Maestro can manage more than one web folder and has an FTP client built in.

[9] New Releases: CarbonLib 1.6 GM SDK, Internet Explorer 5.2

The GM version of the CarbonLib 1.6 SDK for Mac OS is available to all developers and provides all the files needed to begin Carbon development. CarbonLib 1.6 supports Mac OS 8.6 and greater. Contact Software Licensing to distribute CarbonLib 1.5 with your
application.

Internet Explorer 5.2 for Mac OS X, by Microsoft, provides security and performance enhancements to Internet Explorer 5 for Mac OS X. Internet Explorer 5.2 also provides support for Quartz text smoothing.

Sound: CarbonSndPlayDB
This is a set of functions which reproduce the functionality of SndPlayDoubleBuffer in the Carbon environment, giving developers who use SndPlayDoubleBuffer a simpler transition to Carbon.

Printing: PDEProject
This project demonstrates the correct way to develop an application-hosted printing dialog extension that displays a custom pane in the Print dialog. It also shows how to integrate this plug-in with a sample printing application.

Networking: BSDLLCTest
Sample application demonstrating how to open and use a raw mode ethernet socket to send and receive packets for LLC protocols other than TCP and AppleTalk.

Networking: LocalServer
Sample Server and Client applications which demonstrate the use of a TCP and UDP servers applications running under Mac OS X to facilitate communications with Classic applications running within the same environment.

QuickTime: Capturing: SimpleVideoOut
SimpleVideoOut demonstrates how QuickTime Video Output Components can be used to play video out to hardware. A common use would be playing a DV stream (.dv file) using QuickTime's FireWire Video Output Component and recording it on your handy dandy DV camera.

QuickTime: Importers and Exporters: SlideShowImporter
This is an example of a movie import component that accepts as input an XML file, and constructs a movie from the elements in this file.

The Carbon Tips & Tricks page contains answers to many Carbon developers frequently asked questions as well as Tips & Tricks on performance and debugging. 7 new tips and tricks were recently added to the page.

[12] O'Reilly Article: Adding Spit and Polish to Your Cocoa App

In this article, Mike Beam takes a look at two of NSApplication's delegate methods, discusses how to control the document window's title to display arbitrary information, and provides information on how to endow ImageApp with a customized "about" panel.

[13] Mac OS X Tool News: ODBC.NET, TestTrack Pro 4.7-Server/Client/SDK

ODBC.NET from August Software is a free ODBC plug-in for the popular REALbasic cross-platform development environment by REAL Software. Using ODBC.NET, REALbasic applications on Mac OS X, Mac OS and Windows may interact with Windows, UNIX and mainframe data without per-desktop ODBC control panels, drivers or database-revision-specific libraries.

TestTrack Pro 4.7 - Server/Client/SDK by Seapine Software, Inc. is
now available for Mac OS X Server, various client operating systems,
and SOAP environments. TestTrack Pro 4.7 is a bug tracking
solution that features increased configuration options, improved
online help, and additional security features. The TestTrack Pro SDK
provides a programming interface to TestTrack Pro based on SOAP.
[14] Useful Utilities: AppBeat 1.3, FontAgent X 10.1.1, HenWen 1.0,
JMP Version 5, P.O. Toolbox 2.0

AppBeat 1.3 from Cityview Software is a powerful utility that
enables programmers to see profile results real-time and interact
with the application to locate exactly where performance bottlenecks
are located. AppBeat now supports many new features including Mach-O
support for Mac OS X.

FontAgent X 10.1.1 from Insider Software is a Cocoa application
that provides font management and repair. The new version offers
greater flexibility in the importing and handling of fonts contained
in the Fonts folder.

HenWen 1.0 from Nick Zitzmann is a network security package for
Mac OS X that makes it easy to configure and run Snort, a free
Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS). Without compiling or
command line use, HenWen simplifies setting up and maintaining
software that will scan network traffic for undesirable traffic a
firewall may not block.

JMP Version 5 from SAS is a statistical package for graphical
analysis. JMP Version 5, now native for Mac OS X lets you discover
trends in your data. JMP Version 5 includes more platform support,
more ways to access data, and more customization.

P.O. Toolbox 2.0 from Intelli Innovations is a major upgrade to
its U.S. Postal Service-specific package management suite for Mac OS
X. P.O. Toolbox allows users to track packages, generate delivery
confirmation labels in native Mac OS X-friendly PDF format,
calculate domestic and international rates, validate and complete
addresses, and determine time-in-transit for various USPS service
standards.
